SLS’ Dr. Carlos Mata shared his expertise and some design history in this interesting article that details the extraordinary lightning event that impacted the LC-39B lightning protection system on April 2, 2022 while the Artemis 1 launch vehicle was positioned on the pad for Wet Dress Rehearsal. The imagery shown in the article was captured by custom Jupiter OLS high-speed camera systems designed and manufactured by SLS. NASA is currently using seven of these camera systems to provide continuous lightning monitoring for LC-39B and the surrounding area.
