SLS DESIGNS CUSTOM HARDWARE TO SUPPORT NASA’S SPACE LAUNCH SYSTEM VEHICLE

In 2020, SLS was approached by NASA to assess the vulnerability of some Space Launch System circuits at the Stennis Space Center B-2 test stand. NASA decided to engage SLS to design an enclosure to be installed between the test stand and the vehicle that will protect those circuits by providing surge suppression and galvanic isolation, allowing no more than +/- 1V deviation when the test stand side circuits were exposed to +/- 4kV surges. Great team work (SSC, MSFC, and SLS), outstanding NASA leadership, and hard work from SLS’ employees, laid the path for the successful installation of the lighting protection enclosure in record time. Integrated tests with the vehicle have shown that the circuits are working nominally and they are now protected by SLS’s designed hardware. OUTSTANDING JOB SLS!!
